HI! I just start picking up acoustic guitar, mostly for the purpose of accompanying my singing and playing as background rhythm guitar for my band where everybody is good except me T_T.I kinda studying some basic acoustic guitar techniques now but I come to realize that there í one essential part of acoustic guitar all books tend to leave out or talk very little about: "Strumming patterns"It's funny why some people laugh at me when I told them I don't know how to strum or deriving strumming patterns from the songs I heard, provided I've studied classical for the past 2 years with some progress. But it's truly difficult to work out the truly proper strumming patterns from songs, especially when playing impromptu or on the spot, not to mention my sense of rhythm is still raw and weak. Some more, several strumming patterns are just so complex and complicated that even experienced players have to take time getting the hang of itSo I'd like to ask for some tips, advices and even better if someone could help me collate a "Strumming patterns library" *cross fingers*Further more, I'd like to ask if anyone knows anywhere, anywho offers acoustic crash course in Hanoi because I'd like to have one during the holiday when I'm back at home only for 3 weeks. Thanks a lotSorry for not typing in Vietnamese but I've been living overseas for quite a long time that my Vietnamese, especially written Vietnamese, is incoherent. Someone kind enough, please help me translate this whole thing. Thank youIf no one understands or wants to help with the translation then too bad T____T, maybe I'll have to ask my friends how to write this in Vietnamese properly and re-post another time.Anyway, Thanks for viewing!

to baboo: I know how frustrated you are now, but if you keep trying hard enough, it'll be paid off someday. I started learning basic acoustic strumming patterns for a while, but then I realized how silly it was. I play the music, not the guitar. So whenever I try to figure out how to strum a song, I just let my intuition decide how to do it. But if you really want to systematically learn it, you can find lots of websites that list all the common strumming patterns for you. Just google it. By the way, I don't know what you mean by "acoustic crash course." Let me know what it means and I'll briefly translate what you said to others. Peace.

Thanks misa! I understand I'm playing music too but you know, beginners are usually drawn to system and pattern more strongly than trusting their own íntinct. Anyway, I've googled "strumming patterns" and found a very helpful site. They even introduced new patterns on request but payment is required though =PThis is the address, maybe you'd like to give it a visit tooStrumming your guitarOh, crash course means some 3-week or 4-week course which runs fast enough to cover the basis of acoustic guitar. After that, learner will be equipped with enough basic knowledge to self-learn and develop further.I've always attended classical crash course by "thay BAO LAM" (if you are Hanoi-ers, you will know who) during my holiday and it's quite effective. So i think they should have something like that for acoustic and electric guitar too!.Thanks for good advice.

That site has mp3 examples. That is pretty good, dude. You can practice on it. If you have time, check out guitarnoise.com, they have all kinds of lessons from beginning to advanced, plus suggestions from the guitar masters as well.Các bạn trong forum Vietguitar, bạn baboo đang muốn tìm hiểu thêm về cách chơi hợp âm theo nhịp điệu (strumming patterns, không biết gọi là gì, nhưng nói chung là các kiểu khảy đàn lên-xuống như thế nào cho đúng nhịp).

baboo: I think the website you found is a very good one for strumming practice. For guitar strumming, the key thing to focus on is the rhythm. Just the rhythm. If you can pick out the rhythm, you can strum your guitar. (Of course, you must know how to use the chords !)
